Edible Ink Printing on Chocolate
We’re proud of the feedback we receive from customers about the high quality of our printed images. We understand that your logo and branding are essential, and our production team works hard to achieve the best possible results. However, please keep in mind that printing onto chocolate is not the same as traditional printing, and exact colour matching cannot be guaranteed.
To help us produce the highest quality prints that align closely with your brand, please follow the guidelines below:
Colour Matching
- We always aim to match the colours in the image you provide, but we can only match what we see on our calibrated screens.
- Images on screens are displayed in RGB format, and colours may vary across different devices.
- Our printers use CMYK edible inks via inkjet technology. If your image is in RGB format, colours may shift during conversion to CMYK.
- We cannot print using Pantone colours or custom CMYK codes.
- For more precise matching, you’re welcome to post a physical copy of your printed image. This helps us manually adjust our printers for the closest match possible.
Image Format
- Send high-resolution images in any format available to you. If the format is not suitable we will liaise with you.
- Avoid using images taken from email signatures or websites, as they’re usually too low in resolution.
- For larger prints, we recommend high-resolution images due to the print size.
- Due to copyright we can only use images provided by yourself, if you use 3rd branding please ensure you have permission to use their brand.
Print Type
- Our printers are high-quality inkjet machines using CMYK edible inks.
- Ideally, submit images saved in CMYK format. Images created in RGB or other formats may produce unexpected colour variations.
Image Clarity
- While edible ink printing uses a similar process to traditional printing, the medium (chocolate) behaves differently. Therefore, we cannot guarantee perfect clarity in every case.
Variations in Colour
- We print using multiple printers.
- This may result in slight colour variations between prints.
Photographs
- Please ensure photos are high quality, we will convert all photos to a vector image which prints better quality as they use less colours.
- For smaller products, we prefer not to use photos.
Grey Colours
- Grey is one of the most difficult colours to replicate using edible ink, especially when used alongside bright colours.
- It may appear with a slight blue tinge, which falls within our acceptable print parameters.
Small or Fine Text
- Fine or very small text, particularly within coloured backgrounds, may not print clearly.
- To ensure readability, we recommend using bold, large text and removing any unnecessary wording.
Text on Coloured Backgrounds
- Avoid placing small or light-coloured text over full-colour backgrounds, especially on small products. It may appear faint or unclear.
- Use high-contrast, bold fonts to maintain legibility.
Metallic Colours
- Edible ink cannot replicate metallic shades accurately.
- Gold may appear with a green or yellow tint, and silver will print as a flat grey.
Design Adjustments
- We may suggest or request that a design be revised to ensure it is compatible with our printing process.
- If a re-design is declined and image quality is affected, we cannot offer financial compensation.
Highly Detailed Designs
- Complex, highly detailed images—especially within solid colour blocks—can be difficult to reproduce clearly.
- Where possible, use simple logos or images that remain visually strong even without fine detail.
Image Longevity
- Edible images naturally degrade over time due to changes in temperature and humidity.
- For best results:
- Store at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight.
- Do not refrigerate, as this affects the printed surface.
